The Aftermath of Hurricane Sandy

Good Afternoon Bloggers,

This is the Aftermath Blog of Hurricane Sandy. This is the link for: Preparing for Hurricane Sandy

Us New Jerseyans had some pretty rough weeks with this female called Sandy. hehe. My prayers goes out to all those really affected by Hurricane Sandy, I thought it wasn't that serious when I woke up & looked out the window Tuesday morning and saw no flooding and barely any rain falling if not none at all. Until My husband and I didn't started driving around that same morning looking for fresh bread for breakfast for the his family we wouldn't have known the affected Sandy really did on our surrounding towns.

So many people lost power but you did have that block that didn't lost power. Those were consider the lucky ones. We went to my in-laws for the hurricane then later find out that we was one of those lucky ones that didn't lose power back at home so of course we went home & lived happily ever after :)

The whole thing about the gas pump was crazy. People was waiting in lines like 3 hours. Gas Station was running out of gas, other wasn't letting you fill up more then $20. Thank God I didn't have to wait & didn't have a restricting amount.

I went a whole week without work. yey!!!! :) a NICE vacation but then the following week had to report to a very cold work place with no heat and just running on a generator that the fuse was starting to enter the building. Worst week ever! We didn't end up getting power in our building till Thursday. I don't know how much more \I would had been able to take it! & Then we had a snow storm too! Good thing it melted right away. Take a look at all the tons of pictures! I also have 5 pictures of Staten Island damage They're the last ones.

Lines for a Gas Station!!! Blocking my way home!

Sandy broke our window at work!

Snow Storm the next morning after.

Preparing for Hurricane Sandy

Hi Bloggers, :)

We're trying to recover here in the tri-state area from Hurricane Sandy. It's madness out here. It's a stay at home & eat soup kinda thing. Well I want to share my/our story of Hurricane Sandy.

Sunday Night:
My husband and I decided to headed to his parent's house because their power usually doesn't go out during a storm. So we traveled the 30-40 minutes drive with our daughter. We headed to the family's restaurant/bar/lounge to eat dinner around 6 pm, my husband is the manager of the restaurant while his father & mother is the owner. It basically a family run business, they do have their employees of course but his father runs the kitchen & bar while the mother is just basically kitchen and the bigger sister is basically just bar but sometime you find her in the kitchen as back up & my husband is just bar, they wouldn't want him behind the kitchen LoL for some reason that didn't end up in my husband's genes I wished it did!!! His father is an amazing cook! My husband's cousin also work in the restaurant/bar as delivery, bar back, waiter and stock boy basically where ever they need him he is. The area that the business is in is a major flood zone! The Raritan River is right behind the business so that river overflow and flood everything! So as a regular routine for this restaurant during big storm all the stuff in the basement gets removed. That's from big freezers that carry all the frozen foods to boxes & boxes of every type of popular beers. The beers was the hardest part. The beers had to be moved from the basement to the main floor then up to another level, up the stairs thru the small hall into the office. Boxes & Boxes it was a never ending they were moving boxes while the place was packed with guests. There's was so many boxes that just the weight brought the ceiling on the main floor. They didn't notice until they finished moving everything and when to lock up the office and the door didn't close. The floor was falling right in front of their eyes. Any more weight and the floor would had collapsed right underneath the DJ & all the people. The DJ announce it but that didn't seem to scare the people. Instead people got closer to take a look, I'm telling you people love law suit. Finally my father-in-law decided to close down completely. The security guards turned on the light and people just ran to the bars to get in their last drinks in. This was the beginning of the night for the everyone. Cleaning up, and preparing for Hurricane Sandy. It was time to bring all those boxes & boxes of beers back down pack them in the commercial van, take it to the house, unloading and heading back for more! It was the most horrible thing to see, I felt so sad for all the guys' hard work gone for nothing cause now it was back to square one. This time it went faster but they still didn't finish till 4:30 am. so about 3 1/2 hrs to some loads off the falling floor. I posted some pictures of the falling floor/ceiling.

The Pole is up
Putting a pole up to

Packing the boxes in the van

The glass underneath started cracking from all the weight.
The pole fell and broke three table glasses
Pole fell because the ceiling got lighter

the train line to bring down boxes

Removing the door to make the line faster
Door moved away!

Beers in the house, & time to go home & sleep!

It was so cold and windy but there was no rain so we headed to back home but left our daughter at my in -law's house since it was too late already. The next morning the wind already started and a tree fell on top of a van couple of houses down from us.

The sight of the first falling tree.

They wasn't playing. No Flood for them!

We headed back to my in-laws with my husband's cousin and his wife and newborn baby girl. On the way into my in-laws, We took pictures on the main street where the restaurant was.

We lost power at around 8:30 pm  but before that the light flicked like three times before it completely lost power, that was the end of the night basically. The sky was turning blue and red it was a crazy sight to see and kinda scaring tho. Then later we found it was a huge fire that had started.

I will post the Aftermath of Sandy hopefully tomorrow!!!
